Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an aspect of Oriental Medicine, the theory states that “Chi” (bodies life energy) flows via twelve bilateral meridians throughout our body that are all connected like an electrical circuit. Along these 12 meridians lie 350 acupuncture points.

Good health is a nice even flow of energy throughout the circuit, pain however, is usually but not always a blockage of this energy.

80% of the time the site of pain is the site of blockage, these are usually musculo skeletal conditions. If needles are inserted into these points with appropriate combinations it is said that the energy flow can be brought back into proper balance i.e. unblock the blockage. (Bernard Nolan 2016)

In Western societies and several other parts of the world, acupuncture is explained using concepts of neuroscience.

Acupuncture points are seen by Western practitioners as places where nerves, muscles and connective tissue can be stimulated. Acupuncture practitioners say that the stimulation increases blood flow while at the same time triggering the activity of our own body’s natural painkillers.

I often integrate acupuncture within deep tissue treatments and find the combination to be highly effective. The effects of acupuncture include; Pain relief, relief of general superficial symptoms, relief of tight tissue, improved relaxation, Increase in circulation
