Biomechanical Assessment
Biomechanical Assessment is an area I am fascinated in. The way in which the human form moves in both sports and everyday activities and how what appears to be minor physical restrictions can cause major implications. In order to move functionally we need to be biomechanically efficient, balanced, able to bend, to reach etc.
For Example
I am aware that we are asked to perform 100’s of squats,, lunges sit ups in exercise classes, but these need to be performed slowly with thought and precision in order to be beneficial and meet the individual’s objective.
We can’t all biomechanically perform these correctly, we may be too tall, too weak, too inexperienced and yet expected to incorporate them in our exercise programmes because we are instructed they will firm our abs, tone the Glutes etc, many forms of exercise can achieve the same result without causing unnecessary excessive load on the body.
I believe exercise should improve both mind and body but safely, effectively and have a purpose and should be definitely tailored to you as an individual.
I work with many individuals for various reasons, some to improve their running style, some to improve their posture whilst at work behind a desk, some to improve athletic performance by analysing their sport/ activity and identifying muscular imbalances that may have occurred through training.
Once identified exercise / flexibility programmes are issued alongside treatment / acupuncture to help rectify the problem. I look for long term solutions not short cuts so programmes are reviewed and progressed when necessary.
